Mother of Leah Sharibu, the abducted Dapchi school girl, Mrs. Rebecca Sharibu at the weekend appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure the release of her daughter before the October dateline given by Boko Haram to eliminate her, should the government fail to meet their demand.
It was reported that the terrorists had in a recent video, in which they killed a health worker in Borno State, also threatened to kill Leah in October.
But the mother at a press conference on Saturday in Jos, the Plateau State Capital, appealed to President Buhari to do everything within his power to stop the terrorists from carrying out their threat and as well ensure the safe and speedy release of her daughter.
Speaking amidst profuse tears she thanked all those who have been standing with the family in prayers, morally and otherwise, urging them not to relent until her daughter is returned.
“Since February that my daughter alongside her schoolmates were abducted, it has been heartbroken for me as a mother, especially that government ensured the release of her colleagues a month later except her alone.
“I’m appealing to President Muhammadu Buhari to apply all efforts used in ensuring the release of her colleagues, same should be used to free her as well, because there should be no reason whatsoever why her matter should be different.
She thanked the international community for their prayers and moral support, and appealed to them to also assist in whichever way they could to ensure the release of her daughter.
In the same vein Leah’s father said since the abduction of their daughter the family has never been the same.
Speaking to journalists via a phone call that was put on speaker after his wife’s address, Nathan who also reechoed his wife’s plea for their daughter’s release, stress that nothing would give the family joy and fulfillment as the family reunification with her.
He further explained that since the incident happened, there has been no threat to the family whatsoever, except the frequent enquiries from individuals, groups/bodies nationally and internationally.
According to him, another family pressing concern is Leah’s brother (Donald) who has been disturbed and always asking of when she will return.
